Mary Ann Browning's Proper Protein Balance/Nutrition

Regardless of lifestyle, everyone should eat nutritiously. This means cutting back on fat, controlling your portions of protein, and eating more vegetables as a way of life- not a temporary diet. Too much protein can create bulk. In America, we are being fed larger portion sizes than needed. A proper portion of protein is only 3-4oz. of meat, which has about 20 grams of protein. In a balanced diet, protein intake should be approximately 50g of protein a day. If you eat a 16 oz. steak, that is about 850-950 calories, 25g of fat (if cooked lean!), with 60g of usable protein and about 30g of un-usable protein. The 30g of unused protein then gets stored on your stomach and bum and will cause heart attacks and a big belly!

By sticking to a 20g serving of meat you are receiving the protein and nutrition your body needs. To visualize, 3-4oz of meat is the size of a pack of playing cards.Eating appropriately for your lifestyle is very important. For me, as I do a lot of cardio, I eat mostly “good” carbs from vegetables, fiber one, grains and bread.

After initial dieting it is very important to find a diet plan that, with calorie adjustments, will work forever. Depending on age and exercise, different plans will work for different people. It’s easy to diet, but can you keep the weight off for the next 5 years? Eating well and the quality of your calories is very important. We do cardio to exercise off extra calories. A good start is to eat half the protein and more vegetables.
